Project Constraints

The contraints for the project were to test and evaluate PPS and Fly Ash material as Landfill Liner. The three different types of polymer:

Base Seal

Top Shield

Enviroseal

These polymers will be tested at 1, 3, 5% concentration to evaluate the strongest cohesion.

Material

PPS

Above is a photo captured by Jessika Gloor and showing the PPS millings used for testing. This material is the waste product of recycled paper at the SCA Tissue plant located in Flagstaff, Arizona. Currently, SCA is disposing over 200,000lbs of this material daily at the Cinder Lakes Landfill.

Fly Ash

Above is a photo of Fly Ash, Photo Source. Fly Ash is a by-product of burning coal and has many useful properties. In reference to the Liner design, the fly ash, when mixed with the PPS, resembles a clay like substance which can be used for building. More information about Coal Fly Ash can be found here.
